La Quinta has a rich and storied history. Remnants of its earliest inhabitants, the Cahuilla Indians, can still be found today in pottery shards, fish traps and petroglyphs near the Santa Rosa Mountains. Early homesteaders discovered that agriculture and hospitality would thrive thanks to a near perfect climate with low humidity and year-round sunshine.
With the official opening of PGA WEST in 1986, La Quinta also became recognized as one of the world’s most preeminent golf destinations.

Incorporated in 1982, La Quinta’s smart growth strategy has created a delightful mix of shopping, dining and recreational activities. Yet throughout its continued success, the city has retained small-town charm as evidenced in its pedestrian-friendly Old Town. Known as the "Gem of the Desert," the City of La Quinta is located just 30 minutes from Palm Springs in Southern California’s Coachella Valley.
